An individual who laced candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.

The accused was kept in jail before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he managed.

The man engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She said the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.

The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.

She said the defendant then played the "candy game" in a area of five children.
